What does ensō mean?
Ensō is the Japanese word for circle or circle of togetherness and is a Zen Buddhism symbol. The ensō symbol is created with calligraphy using only a single brushstroke. This act demonstrates that creating a perfect circle is impossible, and it is the imperfection that makes an ensō unique. Ensō represents inner peace, the many beginnings and endings in life, and acceptance of ourselves as we are.
My philosophy for counseling is very much aligned with the idea that there is no “perfect self” and that life holds an ever-shifting balance between acceptance and change. I believe every person and couple are unique and that we all have the capacity to be whole in a way that makes sense to us: our bright parts, dark parts, flaws, and all.
